White sage, also referred to as Grandfather Sage, is traditionally used in sacred space consultations to clear negative energies from a space. This superior quality is grown organically in Australia. Smudging is the burning of herbs such as sage for cleansing, purification, protection of physical and spiritual bodies, banishment of negative energies and creation of sacred space. These can be used as sticks or as loose herbs (burned on charcoal or mugwort, or in a firepit). The burning of herbs for emotional, psychic, and spiritual purification is also common practice among many religious, healing, and spiritual groups such as the Native American Indians. The ritual of smudging can be defined as "spiritual house cleaning." In theory, the smoke attaches itself to negative energy and as the smoke clears it takes the negative energy with it, releasing it into another space where it will be regenerated into positive energy. Smudging is generally used to cleanse and purify, clear or release negative energy from a person or space.

Directions for use:

1. Before you light the sage, open windows in the room(s) you intend to clear to symbolise your intention to release and disperse the negative energy.
   
2. Place a few leaves into a heat resistant container (the sage will get very hot) and light.
3. Once lit, immediately blow out the flames to create the smoke.
   
4. Move around the room in a clockwise direction enabling the smoke to permeate around the room whilst affirming "cleanse this space of all negative energy".
   
5. When you have finished, you can douse the smoke by sprinking dirt over the burning sage.
